New Year, New Dog!January 8, 2010 in Family, Friendship, Pets
Murphy made his life long dream of being a Doggie Daddy come true in 2010. He adopted the sweetest little pup from Spokanimal and named her Penny. She’s about 1 year old and we’re guessing she’s a little hound, a little lab, a little retriever and lot of who knows what-else in her. But it all adds up to be adorable. She instantly bonded with Murphy and is friendly to all. Murphy is getting used to having a constant shadow. Wherever he is, Penny is at his side smiling from ear to ear. Murphy hasn’t headed back to school yet, so they’ve been camping out in my basement and so far we are incident free! I’m so happy the two of them have found each other.
Sunny, the big fluffy PuppySeptember 26, 2009 in Crafts, Creativity, Pets, Quilting, Staff
Carolyn and her husband recently adopted a darling apricot-colored Labradoodle. While leafing through a magazine one day, Carolyn came across a photo of a woman sitting on the steps and a fluffy, soulful, floppy-eared dog had his head in her lap.
That’s all it took, she was hooked. Once they determined that the dog was a labradoodle, Carolyn’s husband, Nick, went on the hunt for their new puppy and they had the joy of being involved with their puppy from birth.
All their dogs of the past have been named after bears—Grizzly, Kodiak, Bear—so keeping with tradition Sunny is a nickname for Sun Bear.
He sure has the sunny disposition that goes along with his name. So sunny in fact, he charms himself out of being in trouble every time he unrolls the toilet paper or sticks his head in a trash can looking for goodies to chew.
Carolyn loves him to death, and when he’s done some kind of dirty deed, she laughs and says, “It’s a good thing he’s so cute!” I used to say that about my son when he was a toddler too!
Sunny has been an inspiration for all of us so we designed a dog bed, blankie, and even a pillow with his name on it featuring one of my new fabric collections for Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores---appropriately named “Junkyard Dogs!”

Kathy (resident artist and chicken custodian) just delivered an only slightly belated birthday gift to omelet-lover Jackie that was not only inspired, but very practical. Her initial gift of a dozen Martha Stewart-esque eggs was accompanied by a custom created card with a photo of her prize chickens as well as a punch card for ten dozen eggs. (Delivery included :-) Cock-a-doodle-do – How cute is that!
You’ve Been Goated!April 25, 2008 in Friendship, Pets
We almost had a new member added to our staff today. One of Monica’s friends from “Team Gigi” (from Walk for a Cure) had a little prank up her sleeve that played out at the office today. A couple representatives from the Wishing Star Foundation showed up on our doorstep with the sweetest little goat in arm. With a cute little poem and a bucket they presented Tricia the goat to Monica. The confused and nervous smirk on Monica’s face was priceless. (of course, we were all in on it- otherwise we would have been equally confused) The poem declared that the goat was hers to keep and that she needs to be bottle fed every two hours! You could almost read her mind….”WHAT? Where will I keep it? What will my husband say?” But there was an out. “If you don’t want this pet you can slip us a donation to get out of your situation!” We all ran to our wallets and made our donations to bail Monica out and lend our support to Wishing Star. Don’t worry Monica’s revenge is in play. She sent the Goat, the poem and donation bucket onto someone else from her team. The goat was surprisingly docile and very gentle and only tried to chew up an electrical cord once.
Look at me, I'm blogging!November 11, 2006 in Movies, Pets
Hi Friends out there in Blogsville. The first question I have to ask is, "What do I say, how much do I say? What is going to be interesting to you, What will be boring?" For starters, a little about my day today - I worked at home this afternoon. I love everyone I work with - but there is nothing like the peace and quiet of my basement studio. I put slippers and my comfy (albeit, not so attractive) sweats on. I put on an old movie called "The Apartment" with Jack Lemmon and Shirley McLaine to play in the background. I love to play old movies in particular while I do art. Today I'm drawing Santa's. What a life I lead that I can say the main focus of my day is Santa Claus. Christmas is a year ' round activity for me. Luckily, I love Christmas.
I understand part of blogging is sharing your pets. So, let me introduce you to my cat. Her name is Callie. She's not one of those cats that is stand offish and independent. She loves to holler. And when she's not hollering, she's whining. So, I never feel alone in the house when I'm working. Even when she's two floors away, I hear her.
When I spend all day at the drawing table, my favorite form of relief is to bring a glass of wine with me and soak in the tub. If you're like me (getting older by the day!) and your neck and back get sore - try putting Epsom salts in your bath. It's great for your muscles. Of course, the wine really helps too! I'm into Pinot Grigio these days. It's light and doesn't give me a headache like red does sometimes. Ok, enough about wine! (for the moment, anyway)
Ok, well this one was pretty boring....maybe I'll get better at this.
Good news - tomorrow's Friday! Love the weekend.
My best to you,
PS -Let me know if you have any good remedies for sore muscles. I'm always looking for new remedies!
