Christmas Cards — The Easy Way!

December 18, 2008 in Christmas, Holidays, Technology, Weblogs

GCtop Even if you are one of the organized ones who mailed Christmas Cards this year you can still send an extra little Holiday Greeting using easy to send e-cards. The beauty of e-cards is that it takes just a few minutes, they’re FREE and you can say Happy Holidays to anyone (even work associates or Facebook friends) as long as you have their email address. The cool thing is you can send multiples at one time too. Remember, the greatest gift is spreading kindness.

Last Minute Gifts

December 11, 2008 in Christmas, Creativity, Quilting

Fleece Still looking for some quick ideas to finish up your list with some real Christmas creativity? Anyone would appreciate keeping the chill off their neck with a colorful fleece scarf. BucketAnd if you’re budgeting your time and dollars (who isn’t!?) – you can make four scarves out of one yard of fleece! (we wear them in the office whenever the temperature drops) And if you’re in the mood to work with fleece, Booktry our new twist on a fleece throw. Keep peace in the family by making everyone their own personal cozy blankie. (No fighting over the fleece!) Gift baskets are always a favorite, and just to change it up a little we put a colorful collection of winter goodies in a bright, shiny bucket embellished with scrapbooking letters. And, don’t forget your favorite quilter. Our new book, “Cuddle Quilts for Little Girls and Boys” is now available. Good luck pulling it all together. The Gift that keeps on Giving!

December 4, 2008 in Crafts, Creativity, Quotes, Scrapbooking

Quote-Dec08 The final installment of our QOM for 2008 arrived on our desks today and it’s another lovely sentiment. “Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love.” Perhaps you were inspired by this series and may want to share your favorite quotes (or repeat the ones that Kris used) as an uplifting gift for someone special. The beauty of this is that you can make several at once and even use up your miscellaneous Scrapbooking scraps to create them. Kris said if you’re overwhelmed by making 12, she suggested that you can do one for each season or for favorite Holidays. Great idea!

Cardinal Ornaments

December 1, 2008 in Crafts, Creativity, Quilting

Cardinals

When winter days are cold, snuggle up by the fire and hand-stitch a batch of colorful cardinal ornaments. Hang several on the tree, group them for a rustic wreath, or branch out with an eye-catching garland. The cardinal ornaments are especially cute when grouped with this cute plaque from my holiday collection for Jo-Ann Stores.

Cardinal_applique Materials Needed
Felt – Two 4” x 6” pieces
Polyester fiberfill stuffing
Beak – fabric scrap
Sewable appliqué film
Notions – Black embroidery floss, black crochet thread

Assembly

  1. Make template of cardinal pattern. Draw around template on one 4” x 6” piece of felt.
  2. Pin felt with traced shape to second 4” x 6” felt piece. Cut out cardinal on drawn line, cutting through both layers.
  3. Refer to Quick Fuse Applique. Trace and quick-fuse beak to cardinal. To make cardinal face opposite  direction, fuse beak to back side of ornament.
  4. Use two strands of black embroidery floss to buttonhole stitch around edges of cardinal, referring to diagram below. Leave a small opening for stuffing. Lightly stuff cardinal and continue buttonhole stitch to close opening.
  5. Thread 6” length of black crochet thread through needle. Pull through top of cardinal and knot ends.
